Summer Admissions Ambassador (travel required), Andover Newton

Summer Admissions Ambassador (Travel required)

The Admissions Office is seeking a summer worker to travel within New England for recruitment and public relation purposes with the option of additional time providing office coverage. The schedule will require three weeks of full-time travel away from campus, and can include up to 35 hours per week in the office on campus for up to 10 additional weeks. Compensation will be $525 per week, prorated at $15 per hour. *This position is for summer employment of one current student only.*

As a “Seminary That Changes The World,” Andover Newton will be participating in a summer “New Faces of Ministry” Tour with 13 other seminaries.

Right now six tours are planned with a possible seventh.  Below is the list of tours, tour dates and starting and ending points:  ideally we will provide an Ambassador for the New England tour, July 13 – August 3.

I) Southeast/ May 25- June 15/ Atlanta, GA
II) Mid Atlantic June 1- June 22/ Philadelphia, PA
III) Appalachia June 1- June 22 Asheville, NC
IV) Upper Midwest June 22- July 13 St Paul, MN
V) Midwest July 6-27 Chicago, IL
VI) New England July 13- August 3 Boston, MA

Ambassadors will be paired with a student from a different seminary for the duration of the tour.

  • Candidates must be able to commit to being on the road for at least three weeks, willing and able to constantly be on the move during that time. (If candidates are interested, the schedule does allow for one student to serve on more than one tour.)

Skills Required:

  • Public speaking is key: must be able to speak well in front of a group as well as facilitate one on one and small group conversations. Must have a demonstrated ability to communicate a positive message about Andover Newton in particular and theological education in general.
  • Must have a general openness to individuals who are discerning their faith and a respect for those who think differently.

  • Must be able to travel with others in cramped quarters for a stretch of time; be respectful of the people that they encounter on the way; and have a pleasant disposition.
  • It will be important to be able to grab a sleeping bag and sleep at summer youth camps with minimal amenities.

In addition all tour members will be asked to prepare a sermon, a moment for mission, and a 15-minute presentation that will capture their story of integrating their faith journey with social justice service commitments.

Current students who have completed at least 12 credits of study are eligible to apply, including those who anticipate graduating in May 2014.
