Orlando E. Costas Hispanic and Latin-American Ministries
The Orlando E. Costas Hispanic and Latin-American Ministries Program serves as an academic and ministerial effort to strengthen the voice and presence of the Hispanic community within and outside of Andover Newton through an open dialogue with the Hispanic Christian community at-large.
Through a multicultural curriculum, special courses, lecture series presented by Hispanic and Latin-American scholars, and Hispanic services and community outreach, the Costas program contributes to the enrichment and growth of the Andover Newton community. Its goal is to empower the Hispanic community through the academic and spiritual formation of leaders who will contribute to the ongoing expression of a Hispanic theology in their roles as scholars, pastors and lay leaders in ministry. It focuses primarily on Hispanic ministries in the United States.
The program seeks to honor the legacy of Andover Newton’s former Academic Dean who died prematurely in the 1980’s. Costas was one of the nation’s leading Hispanic scholars and much beloved on our campus.
In 2007 Andover Newton announced that it had created 3 full three year scholarships for outstanding Hispanic/Latin-American students preparing for pastoral ministry. These scholarships have been named for Orlando E. Costas
